The quick answer

  • When: Sunday 1 November 2026, 5pm to 8pm.
  • Lights on: 7pm.

What happens on the night

The council describes the evening as members of the Indian community coming together with people of all faiths to mark the start of the Diwali festivities. The programme it lists is:

  • an energetic Dhol Tasha drumming performance
  • Bollywood songs and dance
  • the switch-on of the Diwali light at 7pm by Councillor Naveen Tangri and Councillor Hema Yellapragada with other community representatives

No stage running order has been published beyond that, and the council lists no food stalls for the evening. If a fuller programme appears, we will add it here.

The Christmas market is on the same day

Sunday 1 November is also the first of the season’s seven Leamington Christmas markets on the Parade. CJ’s Events Warwickshire, which runs it with the council, lists it from 10am to 5pm with more than 90 traders. The market closes as the Diwali evening opens, so you can make a day of it. Our Christmas markets page has every market date to 20 December.

It is also the last day of BID Leamington’s Pumpkin Path trail around the town centre shops, which runs from 24 October. Details are on our Halloween and half term page.

Road closures and parking

The council’s page lists no road closures for the Diwali evening. With the Christmas market on the Parade the same day, expect the street to be busy and part of it occupied by stalls until the market packs up.

CJ’s names four car parks for events on the Parade: St Peter’s multi-storey (CV32 5EL), Royal Priors (CV32 4XT), Bedford Street (CV32 5DT) and Covent Garden (CV32 5QB). No free parking has been announced for the day. Check our parking in Leamington page for charges and closing times, and the roadworks and travel page before you drive in.

The Parade’s other lights night

Two weeks later the same street has the Christmas lights switch-on on Sunday 15 November, with music and food stalls from 3pm and the lights on at 5.30pm. That one does close roads, from midnight. Our Christmas lights page has the detail.

Every detail above was taken from Warwick District Council’s and CJ’s Events Warwickshire’s own pages on 3 October 2026. Tell us if something changes: hello@theleamingtonpost.co.uk.
