A 46-year-old man from Nottingham and a 43-year-old woman from Warwick were arrested on suspicion of attempted assault occasioning grievous bodily harm. Warwickshire Police said on Thursday evening that all three remained in custody.
The details come from the force’s own statement, which it has updated several times since Thursday morning.
What the police say happened
The force received a report at 8.30am on Thursday 24 September. It said a car had been driven towards a teacher outside a school on Shelley Avenue in Warwick. People in the car were also reported to have made threats towards pupils.
The car, a black Ford Puma, then left the area.
The force’s statement does not name the school. Shelley Avenue runs along the northern edge of the grounds of Aylesford School, whose main entrance is on Tapping Way.
Two corrections from the force today
At 1.05pm on Friday 25 September, Warwickshire Police corrected its own statement on two points:
- The man and woman were arrested on suspicion of attempted GBH assault. An earlier version said GBH assault.
- The first version said nobody was hurt. The force now says a young teenager was reportedly assaulted and suffered a cut to their face.
The force has not said who assaulted the teenager, or how. We have not reported anything beyond its wording.
What the school has said
The force said that, after speaking to the school, it had been asked to repeat that the school remains secure, students are safe and lessons are continuing as normal.
Aylesford School had not posted a statement on its own website when we checked on Friday.
What it means for you
- Other schools are not thought to be at risk. The force said it does not believe there is any risk to other schools or businesses.
- Expect to see officers near the school. Police said they would patrol the area.
- If you saw anything, report it. Quote Incident 69 of 24 September. You can call 101 or report online to Warwickshire Police.
- An arrest is not a charge. No one has been charged. We will not name anyone unless the force publishes a name after a charging decision.
A second Warwick appeal this week
Separately, on Friday the force released a CCTV image after an assault outside Warwick Hospital in the early hours of Friday 24 July. It said a man suffered serious injuries to his head and arm. Officers want to speak to the man pictured in their appeal. Call 101 quoting crime reference 23/32388/26.
The two incidents are not connected in anything the force has published.
